Holistic Medicine and Health : MIND

Several years ago Uri Geller (yes, the guy who can bend forks and spoons with
his mind) wrote an excellent book, "Mind Medicine."
One focus of the book was how some people used poor health (real or made up)
to get out of work as children (and even adults). The excuse used so often
caused the mind to consider what was being said as real, and thus could bring
about poor health conditions in the body.
It is important to begin to see our body as healthy and our lives as useful,
and worth living.
While poor health may truly be a valid excuse to except oneself from certain
responsibilities - many people simply dig their own graves with a mental
shovel. (How many have called in to work "sick" because they
wanted to just take a day off? When our mind hears us say we are sick, it
believes us and will lead our bodies in that direction.)
Mr. Geller suggest we use meditation and self-imaging to improve our physical
health.
Try this exercise - when you are alone and no phone calls are expected
(better yet, unplug and turn off all phones), sit on a comfortable chair or sofa
and close your eyes. Picture yourself doing something that you enjoy and
makes you happy. As you are doing this (such as working in a flower bed)
you can see that you feel no pain, you are completely at ease and in complete
comfort as you do what you enjoy. There is no pain, no fatigue - you are
smiling, the sun is warm on your skin.
Practice this meditation several days in a row (it does not need to be the
same imagery - one day you can be working in a flower garden, the next day you
can imagine yourself hiking in the mountains, etc.).
